Kristin Shuman enters her first year as the Idaho State Athletics Director of Strength and Conditioning. Shuman is no stranger to Idaho State University as she has been involved with working with the strength and conditioning program since 2009.
Shuman was the graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach from 2009-2011 and from May 2011-October 2011 she served as the assistant strength and conditioning coach.
After receiving her master’s degree in athletic administration in 2011, Shuman remained in Pocatello as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, and has recently become, and remains, the Human Performance Lab Coordinator in the Sport Science and Physical Education department.
In August of 2012, Shuman was hired as the strength and conditioning coach for the Department of Law Enforcement at ISU and she continues to serve in that capacity. During this time, Shuman remained heavily involved in ISU Athletics as she volunteered her time as the strength and conditioning coach of the women’s soccer and softball programs. Shuman has led the Bengal softball program from 2012-15. The results of Shuman’s efforts in the weight room saw the Bengals win three straight Big Sky Conference regular season championships.
Shuman worked with the women’s soccer program from January 2014-June 2015. Shuman also oversaw the strength and conditioning of the women’s basketball program prior to winning the Big Sky title in 2011-12.
Prior to coming to Pocatello, Shuman served as a strength and conditioning coach at the University of Detroit Mercy for the 2008-2009 school year. Shuman graduated with her bachelor’s degree in sports medicine-exercise science in 2008 from Eastern Michigan. She is currently working on her Doctorate in Educational Leadership-Higher Education Administration, which will be completed by December 2015.
Shuman currently has many research projects in-progress, as well as research papers published related to strength and conditioning and sports medicine. Shuman and her husband Berrett reside in Southeast Idaho and currently have one son, Hudson, and a daughter due in October 2015.
